How Lift works, in plain words.

What a lift costs, what a driver earns, how a request finds a driver, and when Lift is closed.

Tokens, for passengers

Passengers buy tokens in bundles with MoMo in the app, and bigger bundles add bonus tokens. Tokens are a Lift service credit: only Lift accepts them, and they never turn back into cash. They don't expire while your account is active.

What a lift costs. A 5-token base, plus about 2 tokens per km you share the car. A 10-km lift is about 25 tokens. You see the cost before you request.

When you're charged. The cost is held when a driver accepts. You're charged when you confirm you've arrived, or 2 hours after the drop-off if you don't dispute it, for the lower of the planned and the actual distance. The rest of the hold comes back. If the driver cancels or nobody accepts, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

Fees. A no-show costs 5 tokens, and cancelling late costs 5. Cancelling is free once your driver is running late.

Points, for drivers

Drivers earn points from Lift on verified trips. Points are a reward for giving a lift on a journey you were making anyway. They aren't a fare, and no passenger ever pays a driver.

Using your points. Points become fuel loaded onto your TomCard within one working day, or MoMo cash, instantly. A cash-out takes your PIN and a code sent to your MoMo number, and goes only to the wallet in your name.

How a request finds a driver

You say where you're going and when. Lift looks for drivers whose published route passes within about 400 m of you and goes on towards your destination. Your request goes to all of them, and the first to accept takes you. You don't choose a driver, and drivers don't browse people.

Rush hour. Rush hour is set by how many people are asking and how many seats are free, not by the clock. When there are more requests than seats, passengers with a good record go out first and the rest follow a moment later, and a request that's still waiting moves up, so nobody is frozen out. When there are more seats than requests, drivers who've earned a Priority badge see each request a little before other drivers. When the two are balanced, every matching driver sees a request at the same moment.

In the agreement: clause 9, Ratings and reports

When a driver isn't going all the way

A driver may be able to take you most of the way and drop you at the point on their route nearest your destination. That's a partial match. You set how far off your destination you'd accept, 2 km unless you change it. The gap you cover yourself costs no tokens, the app shows it, and you can cancel free for 60 seconds after the match.

Hand-offs, where a second driver takes you the rest of the way, aren't available yet.

Closed hours

Lift is closed between 23:00 and 04:00. No new journeys or requests can start then. A trip already moving finishes, and the safety desk and support stay available.
